WiN UK is spearheading a first-of-a-kind non-executive director ‘matching’ scheme, WiN-NED, for the nuclear industry and related supply chain.
Forward-thinking businesses of all types, from micro companies, SMEs to multi-nationals, are being asked to give senior board level opportunities to women and reap the rewards of diversity.
The initiative supports the organisation’s key target – to increase the proportion of women in senior management to 30% by 2030 (currently the industry average is 13%).
Ivan Baldwin, WiN UK President said: “We know that women are sorely under-represented at Board level in the nuclear industry.
“This scheme will be a mutually beneficial development opportunity for both the participating companies and the successful candidates we place, increasing valuable diversity of thought at the top table.”
Maria Kolodnytska, WiN UK Company Secretary, has been instrumental in setting up the scheme. She added: “NEDs are a proven route to get women into senior leadership roles, ensuring a more balanced view at the top and importantly helping businesses perform better. If you look at the FTSE 100, out of 250 boards a total of 413 directorships are held by women and of those 377 (92%) are NEDs.”
Participating companies will be interested in demonstrating their commitment to diversity across the nuclear sector. The recruitment of talented, suitable candidates will begin in June, the matching with companies and mentors will then follow with a formal launch in the summer.
The pilot project will run for a year and demonstrate a successful recruitment, training and mentoring leadership programme and develop future NED mentors.
